Beard Care: The Basics

If you’re like most men, you probably think of your beard as a necessary part of your overall look. And, if you’re like most men, you’re probably not taking care of your beard the way you should.

Just like the hair on your head, your beard needs to be shampooed and conditioned on a regular basis in order to look and feel its best. In fact, shampooing and conditioning your beard is even more important than doing so for your hair because the skin beneath your beard is much more sensitive than the skin on your scalp.

When shampooing your beard, be sure to use a gentle cleanser that’s designed specifically for beards. Many bar soaps are too harsh for beards and can cause irritation. Look for a beard shampoo that contains moisturizing ingredients like shea butter or jojoba oil.

After shampooing, condition your beard with a product that contains argan oil or coconut oil. these oils will help tame frizzy hairs and make your beard softer and smoother.

If you’re having trouble keeping your beard under control, try using a beard oil or balm. Beard oils help keep the hair hydrated while providing natural shine, while beard balms provide hold and help keep pesky flyaways at bay.
